How roulette works
Roulette is one of the most recognizable casino games in the world. A spinning wheel with numbered pockets, a ball rolling the other way and a table where you place your bets: that's the whole mechanic. European, American and French roulette
Not all wheels are equal, and the difference hits your wallet directly:
- European — a single zero, 2.70% house edge. The sensible default.
- American — adds a second zero (00), which doubles the house edge to 5.26%. The same bet pays worse; avoid it if you can.
- French — a single zero plus the La Partage or En Prison rules, which return part of even-money bets when zero hits, dropping the edge toward 1.35%.
Strategies and myths
To be clear: no system changes the mathematical house edge. Roulette has no memory, so each spin is independent of the last. Systems like the Martingale (doubling after each loss) can produce many small wins, but they carry the risk of a streak that drains your balance or hits the table limit.
